I'm so excited to share a little peek into our new home in Boston's Seaport District. While I could work on this space for the next year and still not call it "complete," I wanted to share our progress since our move in December. This is the first time Greg and I have really been patient with decorating and I feel like it's paying off. With some pieces still left to order and some decor missing from the walls, I promise to share an update when we're "done." But for now, I'm sharing a current look into our new digs and linking to all of the pieces pictured below (also available on the 'Shop Home' page of the blog).
Our move was made a lot easier thanks to Paintzen who repainted the space to give it a clean slate and our own personal touch before moving in. Below is my interview with them which gives you a little insight into our project and how our experience was working with their on-demand services.
"Why was repainting your home important to you?"
When we purchased our first home, we were able to design it from the ground up, giving us freedom to make the space reflect our style. Coming into this previously-owned space, I needed a way to make it feel like it was truly ours and unique to us. I think paint is the best way to give any room or home a fresh start and transform it to be exactly what you want and envision.
"Can you share some general background about your project, and inspiration for your home's new look?"
We have lived in Boston for almost eight years and are used to smaller spaces. While our new home is one of the larger spaces we've lived in to date, it also one of the more modern spaces. I wanted to select colors of comfort, simplicity, and sophistication so we could elevate the space and make it feel more like a home. Newer construction in the city always airs toward simple, clean lines, which can make a space feel a little cold and sterile. I wanted our home to feel like a peaceful oasis after coming in from the bustling city so kept that in mind when choosing the wall colors.
"What do you think about the new space? How would you describe the new look and feel?"
The paint colors we chose made all the difference in how we designed and decorated our space. I often say to my husband that of all of the places we've lived, this is the one I feel most at home in. I really think that's largely due to the soft white tones of the walls and neutral colors of our decor. They bring a sense of comfort and zen. I also incorporated "modern bohemian" decor into all rooms while still keeping it clean and simple to cater to our style.
"What are you most excited about now?"
I'm most excited to continue to find new decor pieces to compliment the paint colors. We have been really patient with decorating and selected each piece really carefully to make sure it is cohesive and flows from room to room. I'm looking forward to enjoying the space with my husband and dog and entertaining friends and family on our patio in the Spring and Summer.
"How did you enjoy working with Paintzen?"
I would highly recommend Paintzen to anyone, especially those that live in the city. There are so many different paint companies and contractors to choose from but going through Paintzen simplified the process and made me feel comfortable that we had the right team working on our space. Their platform for booking services and choosing paint colors made the process seamless and was a great way to keep track of what we booked and chose for colors. Most importantly, the customer service team was outstanding whenever we had a question or needed to make an adjustment.
"Is there any advice you would give to someone repainting their apartment?"
Patience. I recommend taking your time and doing your research before selecting paint colors. Lighting changes every color so make sure to bring paint swatches and samples into the space and look at it throughout the day to see the different tones that the light will pick up. I would also recommend researching color trends and recommendations for colors in the family you are looking for. We found our living room color through a blog post listing top-used colors by interior designers and it looks amazing.
