We have spent most of the Summer settling into our new home away from home in Newport and slowly chipping away at furnishing each room. One of my favorite rooms in the house is the downstairs guest bedroom. With a large, exposed brick wall and working fireplace, I couldn’t wait to get started on planning the decor. When I have a blank slate, I always start with a design board before purchasing anything for a room. It helps me see everything together and also reveals the vibe I’m going for which makes it easier to shop for different pieces. As I started pulling together the board for this room, it was clear I was going for a ‘modern coastal’ theme: black and white, sleek lines, rattan and cane wood accents.
