As we approached our first anniversary, I wanted to style an anniversary shoot for my husband and I that reflected the growth of our relationship since we said "I do." When we were married one short year ago, Greg put on his tux and tightened his bow tie, while I smoothed my satin dress and made sure every last detail was in place. We had a very elegant and formal wedding which was perfect in every way we could have imagined. As we settled into marriage and began our journey together, we realized that perfect day lead to a busy, hectic, ever-changing life together. I embarked on a new business adventure, we adopted a puppy, and decided to move out of South Boston which was our home for almost five years. Weaving through life's changes together has not only brought us closer together but has also let us settle back into our perfectly un-perfect love.
When choosing a photographer, I immediately identified with the photography of Joseph Laurin as he manages to capture the deepest emotion in the most natural way (which is no easy task!). He is able to catch you in the most serious moments, the awkward laughs, the mean-it smiles, and the genuine 'love you' glances. I was blown away with his ability to catch us in each one of these moments while still making it painless (besides the almost broken bones climbing these rocks). He also has the best eye for location. This location shall remain nameless, as it is his best kept secret, but we were blown away by the beauty that is tucked away in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island.
For hair and makeup, I went to my wedding hair and makeup artist Jennie Kay at Jennie Kay Beauty to create a wild and care-free look which contrasted nicely against my high, structured bun on my wedding day. Jennie applied a smokey eye for a more mature sensual look and left my hair with lots of volume, waves, and the most important part, my headpiece. For my wedding day, I worked with a jewelry designer on Etsy to create a custom headpiece that matched my dress. I wanted to incorporate this into my anniversary look so we wove it into my hair. It was the perfect way to tie past to present.
